Meet Salvatore Salvia

Salvatore is namesake and grandson of our family’s U.S. founder. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Salvia has been an active filmmaker and sailor for the majority of his career. He is a graduate of Boston University where he earned a B.A. in English & Literature, an Army ROTC scholarship and commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in Military Intelligence. He completed his M.A. in Communications at American University.

Salvatore was born in Rhode Island, raised in Massachusetts, then moved to Maryland for an Army assignment. He married there and lived in Annapolis for nearly 40 years raising two sons. He was active in the Optimist Club, serving two terms as president, coached youth sports, and enjoyed sailing on the Chesapeake Bay. He currently lives aboard his sailboat, Sparkle Plenty, cruising where the wind takes him.

After completing four years of military service, Mr. Salvia began his film career working as a news writer & film producer for Hearst Metrotone, the Hearst Corporation’s Washington, DC news bureau, covering the White House, Congress and government agencies. Next he became a Civil Service employee with the Navy’s Bureau of Medicine & Surgery writing, directing, and producing medical films. In 1977 he became a free-lance writer/director/producer concentrating on business-to-business training and marketing videos. A passionate sailor, he founded TheSailingChannel.TV in 2006, producing and distributing sailing documentaries and how-to-sail videos. His newest venture is SailFlix, an online streaming subscription service featuring TheSailingChannel.TV sailing video library.
